How we met
“
It was almost 15 years ago When I first met Lauren —and I’m 29, so that’s more than half of my life!”

Early one school-day morning, in October of my freshman year, I sat with a few friends at a crowded table in my high school library. They were finishing up homework, while I was reading some novel or other —Phantom of the Opera, perhaps? —when a boisterous air entered the library and drifted my way.
Determined to not be distracted, I kept my eyes fixed and re-read the last sentence, when an amused voice interrupted my focus. Eyes and attention drawn up to the speaker, he asks me, "What are you, like Hispanic or white?" ... and that's how I met my husband to be.

It was a regular Tuesday morning when I noticed a girl reading a book in the library and wearing a sweater in my favorite color (burgundy). We didn't have any classes together so I hadn't had the chance to talk to her yet.
I made my way over to her, and I'm pretty sure I teased her a bit about what it was she was reading.
That was almost 15 years ago, and I haven’t spent a day without her since, in one way or another.
